40 Hour Famine

Bringing our Sunday into the weekday means being aware of needs around us, and those further afield.

Last year I participated in the 40 Hour Famine and I thank all of you who sponsored me in that. I raised over $450 and I would like to double that this year. The church I belong to raised just over $80,000 and it was nice to know I was a part of that, even if only a small part. If you are not already sponsoring someone, it would be really good if you would consider sponsoring me.

I’ll be going without food for 40 hours to raise money to help feed hungry kids.

Just $40 will help feed and care for 8 children in East Timor and Southern Africa for a whole month. To find out more about how the funds raised are going to be used click on http://www.worldvision.com.au/40HourFamine/about_funds.asp.

Could you please support me by giving a donation?

If you can, simply visit the World Vision 40 Hour Famine website and click on Donate Here. Donations are tax deductible and the minimum amount is $2. You will receive a receipt as soon as you’ve made the donation.

When it asks you for the Famine Number, please enter 26186634-7. This makes sure that the donation is recorded against me and that I’m sent a record of your donation.

You can also go directly to the donate screen by clicking here

Thank you very much!

Realisation

I’ve become aware of a number of books and websites dedicated to ministry in the workplace over the past few months, and the more I see and read, the more I know that this is where I’ve been headed for a long time.

In Os Hillman’s book Faith & Work: Do They Mix? he reminds the reader of how everyone that Jesus called to be a disciple was a worker – not a rabbi or someone from the synagogues. Right from the very beginning of his book he had a verse from Genesis 2:15 emphasising that God put man in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.

Os gives many, many examples that show how ministry took place in the workplace, both in the Old and the New Testatments.  He also challenged the reader to consider that there came a time when the Sacred became separated from the Secular to the point that today people tend to think that they’re not in ministry unless they are working in the church.  His book is designed to show that this thinking is incorrect and I have to agree.

Which brings me to my point – at last I’ve found where my ministry is and it is exactly where I’ve been told I should be.  It is in the workplace and through my business.  KMT

Why Workplace Ministry?

I’ve been on a journey for many years that has led me through different workplaces, I’ve met lots of people, and all along God has been guiding me to the point where I am now. That journey has consisted of meeting His people in the workplace and in turn, sharing about Him in the workplace to others. But I didn’t know it was my ministry till recently – although the desire to mentor others, encourage and help guide them has been growing stronger for several years.

For a couple of years I worked as Church Secretary (thinking that was where God wanted me) whilst maintaining my business on the side but as time passed I found the desire to be back at home fulltime with my business increasing. I felt guilty about that until I began getting Words of Prophecy from visiting Pastors and others who told me God wanted me in the business world – not working in the church. Whilst that confused me somewhat as I knew I had a ministry (somewhere) I was actually glad to be told to go back home into my business fulltime, which I did.

A series of events led us (my husband and me) to a new church and there being newly established was a business ministry. In fact they hadn’t started on it yet – it was on their list of things to do. We had just walked in at the right time! I was later told they’d had in mind another couple to run it but they had left to go to another church.

I’m now a member of the core group working on the outline for what the ministry group will do and my plan is to report on that here as it develops. But more than that, to write about my own discovery on what God has revealed in His plans for workplace ministries in general.

If you’ve read my blog God-Incidence, you’ll find it was exactly that which led me to purchasing the books I’m currently reading, and which in turn, have led me to establishing this particular blog. Why not share the journey with me, and the path that God has you travelling in relation to Workplace Ministries. KMT

About Author

John 5:17
Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working."

My name is Kathie and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I grew up always knowing that God was with me and formally accepted Christ as my Saviour when I was 14 years old. I have had many experiences where God has been involved at my places of work and amongst my work colleagues.

A few years ago I heard the founder of Australian Christian TV speak - I don't remember a lot of his talk but I do remember one particular phrase that has stuck with me ever since. He said "Whatever your passion is, that's your vision" . It struck a chord with me and I realised that the very things that made me passionate are the same things that I do daily in my business, and through those things I know I touch many lives. I believe I am where our Lord wants me to be.

I've recently been reading Faith & Work: Do They Mix? by Os Hillman. Excellent book and it was whilst reading it, I got the idea for this blog - and was pleasantly surprised that this domain was waiting for me to purchase. I will be sharing what I've been learning through reading and research in the hope that it will also provide answers to your searches and prayers. Would love to hear from you. Bless you, KMT
