Good Modeling

September 16th, 2006No Comments

I have on my office desk a copy of The Daily Bible Walk, a perpentual calendar, one page to each day and I turn it over daily. It has a bible reading plan, plus quotes a scripture and has an interesting take on those scriptures.

Today’s reading is referenced to Micah 3:1 (Listen, you leaders of Israel! You are supposed to know right from wrong) and talks about the importance of good modeling in Christian life and how hard it is to overestimate. There is a prompt to write down the names of three Christians who have helped you the most by their consistent godly model. It then prompted the reader to consider if they would end up any one’s list for the same reason.

I had to really stop and think - are there three Christians in my life who have helped me considerably? I couldn’t quickly think of three but as the day wore on I thought of one, then another, then another and so on. There are a couple of people who particularly stand out to me, a husband and wife team, and all the others have come into my life and then moved out again over time. My husband and I are still settling into our current church so there’s not been a lot of input in our lives directly yet but the teaching there has been great and collectively what has taken place there in the past 16 months is gradually adding to our lives.

But when I look at what has taken place in my business walk I do see people who have influenced my thinking and actions considerably and generally these have had qualities about them that make me wonder if they are also Christians?

The last line of the diary reading asks this question which I thought was really poignant: On how many other Christians’ lists would your name appear if they were asked the same question? Interesting thought to ponder, isn’t it? KMT
