This question has been on my mind for a long time. My business is not yet profitable and I wonder if I should be paying tithe in some way. We do give, but I am not sure about tithing, when there is no profit yet. So how can I pray, 'Trust me in this.... that I will open up the storehouses of heaven...' Since the moment I opened the doors I have tithed right off the top of my business.From the gross. Even tips.This week my husband more than asked me to stop. He wants me to give. But, not to tithe from the top. In my business it is hard to see exactly what I bring home. I am so sad. For the past 21/2 years I have watched God help me in every way. Even miracals. I started the business with no money at all. I have had success through these hard times. My husbands business is failing due to the economy. That is why he wants me to stop. I am sooo very sad. I wanted to be THE faithful giver that God has called me to be. Then I have to wonder if there will be any miracles left for me because I am not tithing from the top. Please pray for us. This is indeed a difficult topic for business owners and one that I've discussed with business coaches and pastors. Some believe you should be tithing on your gross income, that is before anything else goes out. But if you have borrowed money and have payments due on those borrowings, then in reality they need to be paid back first and you tithe on what is then considered your 'true income' before any other expenses. In Malachi the tithe was indeed on the gross, not on the net profit - it doesn't say anything about loans or anything of that nature. Have a chat to your pastor about this and then discuss it with God as well.
